One person hurt in semi-truck crash

A semi-truck jackknifed and overturned after a crash along U.S. 301 in Parrish Sunday evening, injuring the driver and closing the road for hours.

The semi-truck, driven by a 44-year-old Richmond, Va., man, was southbound on U.S. 301 near Dickey Road around 8 p.m. Sunday, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver did not slow down for the 1995 Chevrolet 3500 pulling a trailer in front of him, and the semi collided with the rear of the trailer. The semi-truck driver lost control and the trailer attached to the semi rotated and jackknifed off the road, overturning before it stopped on its left side, according to FHP. The crash left the semi resting across the south and northbound lanes of traffic.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, the Chevrolet’s trailer was carrying bee hives. The crash shut down U.S. 301 until just after midnight.

The semi-truck driver was charged with careless driving, according to FHP. He was taken to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries.

The 42-year-old man Bradenton man driving the Chevrolet reported no injuries in the crash, according to FHP.
