Two women seriously hurt in crash

Two women were taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a crash Monday afternoon crash on Englewood Road in Sarasota County.

A 79-year-old Venice woman, driving a 2012 Buick Regal, was eastbound on Loyola Road near the intersection of Englewood Road around 5 p.m. Monday, where she stopped at a stop sign. A Ford F350, driven by a 20-year-old Sarasota woman, was southbound in the center lane of Englewood Road approaching the intersection when the Venice woman failed to see the oncoming vehicle and turned left in front of the truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The front of the truck collided with the driver’s side of the Buick and both vehicles came to a stop in the intersection. Troopers noted in the crash report there were no skid marks on the roadway.

The 79-year-old woman was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hosptial with serious injuries while the 20-year-old driver was taken to Venice Regional Bayfront Health with serious injuries, according to FHP.
