Report of smoke in music room forces Daughtrey Elementary to be evacuated

Students, teachers and staff at Blanche Daughtrey Elementary School had to be evacuated on Wednesday afternoon after smoke was reported to be coming from the school’s music room.

At about 12:40 p.m., fire crews from Southern Manatee Fire Rescue responded to the report of smoke at Daughtrey Elementary, 515 63rd Ave. E., Bradenton

Southern Manatee Fire Rescue has responded to Daugherty Elementary after report of smoke in the music room.

There did not appear to be any significant damage or injuries about 30 minutes later when officials from the Manatee County School District arrived. The school’s principal also arrived at about the same time, and it was unclear if or why she may not have been at the school at the time.

No one other than school officials and fire crews were permitted on campus during the evacuation, including parents.
