Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue rescued two children and two adults from a mobile home that caught fire in the 100 block of Main Drive on Saturday morning.

Billy Whitfield, the on-duty battalion chief, said there were reports of “heavy smoke conditions coming from all parts of the building.” Christmas lights along the roof and furniture inside the mobile home were scorched.

The residents were cleared from the home by firefighters. Bernard Wallace, a neighbor and Good Samaritan, worked alongside them to help retrieve the two kids from the home.

“My neighbor called me to help,” said Wallace, who lives behind the home that caught fire. “I heard the kids crying, so I just kicked the door and went in.”

None of the residents or firefighters were injured, Whitfield said. Red Cross also responded to the scene to provide assistance to the family.

According to a release, firefighters contained the fire within 20 minutes of arriving at the scene. However, the building sustained about $10,000 in damage.

The fire marshal’s investigation concluded that the cause was accidental but gave no indication how the fire started.
