Sylvester Bellamy Thanksgiving Drive to provide 150 meals to needy residents

Local law enforcement will help put on the Sylvester Bellamy Thanksgiving Drive on Wednesday that aims to provide 150 meal baskets for needy families and the homeless.

The event has been organized by Sylvester’s brother, Ray, a former Manatee County resident and the first African-American to earn a football scholarship at the University of Miami.

Sylvester has ties to the county as well. He was a longtime deputy for the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and passed away in 2014.

The drive begins 8:45 a.m. at Lincoln Middle School, 305 17th St. E., Palmetto. The sheriff’s office will assist during the event, along with Palmetto and Bradenton police.
