Seven injured in crash involving school bus
A Sarasota County School District bus carrying students to class Wednesday morning was involved in a crash in North Port, according to city officials.
The bus, headed to North Port High School, had about 20 students aboard when the crash occurred at Toledo Blade Boulevard and Cranberry Boulevard around 7 a.m.
Seven people were injured in the crash, including five students, the bus driver and the driver of a 2009 Toyota Camry the bus collided with, according to the North Port public information officer Josh Taylor.
None of the injuries were considered serious, Taylor said. The school district was able to quickly notify parents of the students involved in the crash, authorities said.
The southbound lanes of Toledo Blade Boulevard were reopened by about 9:30 a.m.
The driver of the Camry was cited for failure to yield. Investigators said both vehicles had a solid green light, but the Camry turned into the path of the school bus, which was traveling straight through the intersection.
