Sarasota man who died in motorcycle crash not wearing a helmet, troopers say
A 72-year-old Sarasota man was not wearing a helmet when he was killed after crashing his motorcycle Monday night and troopers believe alcohol may have been a factor.
Roger L. Boggs was driving a 2008 motorcycle east on D’Orsay Street around 8:14 p.m. when he tried to turn right onto Adrian Avenue, but went off the south side of the road, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The front of the motorcycle hit a small ditch and fell onto its side. Boggs came off the motorcycle and landed partially on it in the grass shoulder, according to FHP.
The crash report notes Boggs was not wearing a helmet when the incident occurred and alcohol was believed to be involved.
Boggs was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital but did not survive.
