Tampa 7th-grader brought gun, ammo to school, police say
A seventh-grade student at a Tampa middle school was arrested Monday after school administrators found a handgun and live bullets in his backpack, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials said the Tampa Police Department originally got a tip about the student over the weekend. The tipster said the student was selling drugs on school property and was known to carry a gun.
School administrators searched the student’s property Monday and said they found a .380 semiautomatic pistol and two live bullets in the backpack. Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office school resource deputies arrested the student and transported him to the Hillsborough County Juvenile Assessment Center.
The student was charged with possession of a firearm on school property and minor possession of a firearm.
