Two Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies rescued the driver of a vehicle that crashed into a pond just after 5 p.m. Saturday in Plant City.

The driver, an 82-year-old woman from Webster, was traveling westbound on Paul Buchman Highway, approaching the intersection of Alexander Street, according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Upon reaching the intersection, the vehicle, a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe, “collided with a utility pole, became airborne, crossed an embankment, collided with a chain link fence and finally entered a pond,” according to FHP.

Two HCSO deputies arrived shortly after the crash and entered the pond to rescue the driver from the sinking vehicle, the release stated. She was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
