Tractor driver in serious condition after striking another car, falling from vehicle

A 77-year-old man was knocked from his tractor after he failed to yield the right of way to another vehicle Thursday morning.

The tractor driver was left with serious injuries and airlifted to Sarasota Memorial. The other driver, a 58-year-old man from Bradenton, suffered minor injuries.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the tractor was traveling eastbound on Hollis Avenue in Charlotte County, approaching the intersection of State Road 776 around 10 a.m. when the driver failed to see the other vehicle approaching from the west direction, striking the front of the vehicle.

The driver fell from his tractor and into the left lane of SR 776. His tractor rotated clockwise and struck the vehicle once more, FHP reports.

The tractor driver was charged with violation of right of way at a stop sign.
