North Port man wanted for hit and run with injuries in Ruskin
RUSKIN The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for Lee Lyman Bassett, 30, of North Port, who is accused of fleeing the scene of a crash.
Troopers said two vehicles collided on U.S. 41 Friday night around 11 p.m., causing one person to sufffer serious injuries.
Bassett was traveling northbound on U.S. 41 in a Ford F-150 when the vehicle overtook and collided with the rear of a Chevy Trailblazer.
The impact caused the driver of the Chevy to lose control and the vehicle left the roadway and overturned.
Troopers said Bassett then fled the scene on foot.
The driver of the Chevy and two passengers received minor injuries in the crash. A third passenger, a 13-year-old boy, was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital in serious condition.
Troopers said Bassett is a habitual traffic offender and is considered wanted by the Florida Highway Patrol. Anyone with information is asked to call FHP at 813-558-1800.
