Venice woman flown to hospital after crash on Interstate 75
A Venice woman was flown to a hospital after her vehicle overturned in a crash along Interstate 75 in Sarasota County Friday night.
Just before 8:30 p.m. Friday, a 2011 Toyota Venza and a 2014 Toyota Corolla were stopped for traffic in the outside lane of southbound Interstate 75 near the 181 mile marker. A 2005 GMC Sierra behind the two vehicles did not stop and struck the back of the Venza, according a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The Venza rotated clockwise onto the shoulder of the road and overturned. The Sierra also struck the left side of the Corolla, causing the Sierra to obstruct the outside and center lanes of the interstate, according to the report.
The 63-year-old Venice woman driving the Venza was flown to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, the FHP said.
The 27-year-old Port Charlotte man driving the Sierra suffered minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital. He was charged with careless driving. His passenger, a 34-year-old Ohio man, did not report any injuries.
The driver of the Corolla, a 23-year-old Tampa man, was not injured in the crash.
