Man struck, killed after he walked into path of vehicle, FHP says
A 65-year-old Sarasota man died after he walked into the path of a vehicle while crossing a street, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Around 9:51 a.m. Friday, a 2015 Kia Optima, driven by a 30-year-old Sarasota man, was traveling eastbound in the inside lane of Proctor Road near Wood Pine Drive, when the vehicle struck David M. Campbell, who was walking southbound across all four lanes of Proctor Road, according to FHP.
Campbell walked directly into the path of the Optima, which struck him on his right side, according to FHP.
Campbell, 65, of Sarasota, was killed in the incident.
Possible charges are pending the results of the FHP investigation.
The driver of the Optima was not injured.
