Truck flips, spills waste onto U.S. 41

The 57-year-old driver of a large truck carrying tons of human waste is suffering from serious injuries after he lost control of the vehicle and it flipped onto its left side, spilling the contents into the street.

Florida Highway Patrol reports that the driver was traveling north on U.S. 41 Tuesday afternoon around 3 p.m. when he failed to adjust the speed of his vehicle for backed up traffic due to a red light at Central Sarasota Parkway.

He swerved the 2010 International 4300 into the left lane and attempted to turn to the right again, but the truck flipped and slid about 100 feet, FHP said. The truck came to a rest facing north and blocking the inside lane of U.S. 41.

The driver was taken to Sarasota Memorial with serious injuries. FHP says he has been charged with careless driving.
