Rain in Saturday’s forecast ahead of another blast of cool air

Expect some wet weather in Manatee County ahead of another cold blast of air.

Storms will be moving into the area on Saturday ahead of a cold front that is heading south and expected to bring cooler weather for Sunday, according to Bay News 9 meteorologist Diane Kacmarik.

Rain chances will be 50 percent on Saturday, with a surge of tropical moisture moving north from a tropical system currently forming in the Caribbean.

The system, expected to become a tropical depression or Tropical Storm Philippe, will move over Cuba head toward the Bahamas, with no direct impact to the area.

As of 8 p.m. Friday, the system was 380 miles south-southwest of Havana, moving at 6 mph with sustained winds of 40 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The actual cold front won’t move into the area until sometime after midnight and before daybreak Sunday, according to Kacmarik. Sunday’s high will be about 72 degrees.

Conditions on Sunday will be breezy with wind out of the north-northwest, and boating conditions will be hazardous, Kacmarik said. As the cold blast of air continues to move into the area, temperatures are predicted to drop throughout the day Sunday. The overnight low going into Monday will be about 50 degrees.
