Overturned SUV with trailer shuts down lanes of Interstate 75 over Manatee River

An overturned SUV with a trailer in tow caused delays in Thursday evening’s rush hour after the crash closed two southbound lanes on the J.D. Young Bridge over the Manatee River, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

At 5:30 p.m. Thursday, a 60-year-old St. Petersburg woman driving a 2000 Ford Explorer towing a trailer was heading south on I-75 in the right lane approaching mile marker 224 when she lost control of the SUV, causing it and the trailer to overturn, according to a news release.

The SUV and the trailer came to rest in the right and center lanes, blocking traffic for about an hour and a half.

The closure caused traffic delays into Bradenton over the Desoto and Green bridges.

The driver was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, according to the report. She was cited for careless driving.
