2 injured in motorcycle crash
A pair of North Port residents were hospitalized Monday afternoon with serious injuries after a driver failed to yield the right-of-way and struck them, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
A 71-year-old North Port woman traveling southbound on US 41 in a 2013 Hyundai Sonata failed to notice a 1984 Harley-Davidson Softail motorcycle carrying two passengers as she turned toward El Prado Road. The front of the Sonata struck the motorcycle’s left side and sent it traveling to the grass shoulder.
The driver of the Sonata was not injured and was charged with failure to yield right-of-way.
The two motorcycle passengers — a 54-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman, both from North Port — were not wearing helmets and received serious and critical injuries. Both were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
