The Manatee County School District said Sunday it plans to open all its schools Monday despite flooding in some areas of the county.

“(H)owever, we want to make sure all of our parents, students and staff are aware that there be areas of the county that are impacted by street flooding or standing water as a result of the heavy amount of rain that we have had this weekend,” the school district said in a statement.

“Parents, please remind your students to be cautious when driving or walking and not to enter any areas of standing water on foot or while driving,” the school district said.

The district added that it anticipates that school bus drivers will be able to navigate through high water areas, but cautioned that some routes may be running later “if areas reserved for bus stops are covered by standing water.”

“(P)lease inform your students that they should stand at a place that is safe and not covered by water, but where they can be visible to the bus driver.”
