Pedestrian dies in crash

A Sarasota man was improperly crossing the street when he was struck and killed Wednesday night, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

A 2001 Nissan Sentra, driven by a 55-year-old North Port man, was traveling east on State Road 72 (Clark Road) in the center lane west of Colonial Drive in Sarasota County, shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday, according to FHP.

George Louis Stenza, 68, was improperly crossing Clark Road when he was struck on his right side by the vehicle, according to FHP. The force of the impact projected him into the inside lane of the road.

The FHP report noted there were 35 feet of skid marks from the vehicle in the road.
