Dozens gathered in West Bradenton on Saturday in protest of developer Carlos Beruff’s proposed Aqua by the Bay days before it is set to go to the Manatee County Commission.

Those gathered at the intersection of Cortez Road and 75th Street West celebrated the Planning Commission’s vote recommending the project be denied, but were also trying to ramp up energy before Aqua by the Bay goes before the commission on Wednesday.

The project is the latest proposal by Beruff in hopes of developing 529 acres between El Conquistador Parkway and Sarasota Bay, just to the south of 53rd Avenue West, with 2,894 homes.
