Five hurt in rush-hour wreck on I-75
A blown time caused a crash Wednesday on Interstate 75 that injured five Tampa men and snarled rush-hour traffic, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The driver, age 56, and three passengers, ages 33, 47 and 50, all sustained serious injures. A fourth passenger was listed in critical condition. All were taken to hospitals in Bradenton.
The vehicle, a 2003 Dodge Caravan, was northbound on I-75 north of Kay Road when its right rear tire failed, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway onto the paved shoulder and into the grassy median. The van then began to overturn and struck some small trees before coming to rest on its roof, the report said.
Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, the report said.
