Pedestrian hospitalized after being hit in crosswalk
A 28-year-old Bradenton woman was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian occupying a crosswalk after hitting a 66-year-old woman, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Around 2:57 a.m. Tuesday, the Sarasota pedestrian was crossing westbound on Honore Avenue just as Beatriz Silva, 26, was making a left turn from eastbound 17th Street onto northbound Honore Avenue in a 2016 Nissan Sentra with two young passengers.
Silva had a green light, but the 66-year-old pedestrian also had the right-of-way crosswalk signal, FHP said. The front of the Sentra hit the woman, according to FHP.
She pulled over into a nearby parking lot, and the pedestrian was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, according to FHP. Silva was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian occupying a crosswalk.
