Two drivers hurt after woman runs red light on University Parkway

Two drivers sustained serious injuries after a Bradenton woman ran a red light on University Parkway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

At 2:06 p.m. Saturday, a 66-year-old Bradenton woman driving a 2015 Pontiac Firebird was headed west in the center lane on University Parkway approaching the intersection with Lockwood Ridge Road but failed to stop for the red light, according to a news release. The front left of the Firebird crashed into front right of a 2015 Infiniti JWW that was turning left from eastbound University onto Lockwood Ridge.

The collision caused the Firebird to spin into a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban that was stopped at the red light in the inside southbound lane, troopers reported.

The Bradenton woman was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital to be treated for her serious injuries. The 60-year-old Sarasota woman driving the JWW was taken to Lakewood Ranch Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The Bradenton man driving the Suburban only sustained minor injuries, according to the report.

The Bradenton woman was cited for running the red light.
