A new look coming for Florida driver license, identification card
New Florida licenses and identification cards are coming this August.
The new, more secure Florida drivers license and identification card will be issued by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
The new credential provides residents the “most secure over-the-counter credential on the market,” according to FDHSMV.
The new IDs will be available locally on Aug. 28, at the 904 301 Boulevard West office in Bradenton, according to the implementation schedule. They will be available at all service centers and online by the end of 2017, according to FDHSMV.
The new credential will be available for online renewals at GoRenew.com by the end of December.
Floridians are only required to replace their current card or license if theirs has expired or a change is needed, such as an updated address.
New look
The new driver license and ID card will see a “pastel-colored linear rendering of the Florida state seal and a large orange ‘FL’ ” over a white base on the front, with an image of the state of Florida among ocean waves and the year 1845 on the back, according to FDHSMV. The year refers to when Florida became the 27th state.
Photograph images will now be printed with a transparent background and appear in four locations on the credential, FDHSMV noted. Designated header colors will denote what kind of license the owner holds.
The new design uses nearly double the fraud protection features as the previous design including redundant data, ultraviolet ink and optically variable features, according to FDHSMV.
It also incorporates designations for lifetime sportsman’s, boater, freshwater, saltwater and hunting licenses, as well as designations for veteran, organ donor, deaf/hard of hearing and developmentally disabled. Sexual offenders and sexual predators will also have an identifier on the identification cards and license, according to FDHSMV.
