Flood warning issued for east Manatee River

A flood warning has been issued for the area around the Manatee River near the Myakka Head, according to the National Weather Service.

Heavy rains have increased the flooding in this area of East Manatee County from a minor to moderate severity. The impacted area runs along a stretch of State Road 64 from Lake Manatee State Park to Bear Bay Road, and could affect areas two miles north and south of the highway.

Around 2 a.m. Wednesday, the flood stage was at 15.2 feet. According to the service, low sections of State Road 64 will begin to flood at 15 feet.

Drivers are warned against traveling on flooded roads. The flood warning runs through early Friday.
