Structure fire in Venice leaves one dead

One person was killed in a structure fire in the 2600 block of Carmine Road in Venice, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire occurred about 12:30 a.m. Saturday. SCSO deputies assisted the Sarasota County Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal, and two deputies were hospitalized for smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide exposure, according to the press release. They were released from the hospital Saturday evening.

The investigation continues into the cause of the fire.
