Third worker dies following TECO power plant accident

A third person has died after last week’s industrial accident at the TECO power plant.

BRACE Industrial announced on Thursday that Antonio Navarrete, a contractor working at the Big Bend Power Station, died after being hospitalized since the June 29 accident.

Navarrete, 21, was one of four people injured when molten slag was suddenly released from a tank that was being cleaned.

Christopher Irvin of Tampa and Michael McCort of Riverview also died in the accident. Three others remain hospitalized with what have been called life-threatening injuries.
