Teen cited for hydroplaning into trooper’s marked car
A 17-year-old North Port teenager was cited for driving too fast on a wet road in Venice Wednesday, causing her to hit a Florida Highway Patrol trooper’s marked car.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, the girl was driving with a 15-year-old passenger in a 2004 Chevrolet 2DR eastbound on State Highway 45 around 6 p.m. The 27-year-old Venice trooper was stopped for traffic near the intersection with Rockley Boulevard.
The teen tried to brake, but hydroplaned and hit the back of the trooper’s car, according to FHP. The trooper was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in North Port for minor injuries and the teen was cited for driving too fast for road conditions.
