Two fatal wrecks Friday night on Tampa Bay area highways

There were two traffic fatalities on Tampa Bay area roads Friday, according to releases from the Florida Highway Patrol.

At about 7:30 p.m. in Pasco County, a 2011 Kia Optima overturned after colliding with the rear of a 2002 Cadillac DeVille on U.S. 19 just south of Sunray Drive.

The driver of the Kia Optima, 36-year-old Karl Anthony Giambo of Port Richey, was ejected from the vehicle and later died at a Pasco County hospital, according to the FHP release.

The driver of the Cadillac DeVille was not injured.

At about 10:40 p.m. in Hillsborough County, a pedestrian was killed after being struck by a 2003 Dodge pickup. According to FHP, the vehicle was traveling eastbound on State Road 60 in Brandon, and the pedestrian was crossing SR 60.

Richard Leon Brooks, 69, of Plant City was pronounced dead at the scene. Charges are pending, according to the release.
