A man is dead after his vehicle, while traveling northbound on Orient Road just before 4 a.m., was struck by a fallen portion of a tree that fell onto it.

A Pasco County man was killed Thursday morning after his car crashed into a tree limb hanging from power lines.

Just before 4 a.m. on Orient Road in Hillsborough County, William Vantassel, 36, was on his way to work when the crash occurred, family of Vantassel told Bay News 9. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic homicide detectives found the tree limb — which fell just before the crash — got stuck in the power lines that crossed the road, dangling the limb about 10 feet from the ground, according to Bay News 9.

Vantassel didn’t see the limb and drove into it, according to Bay News 9.
