If you bought this mixed fruit from Publix, throw it out

Publix has voluntarily recalled some of its pre-packaged fruit due to possible contamination, according to a release from the store.

The recall is for Publix Tropical Medley Mix because it “may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes.”

All use-by dates of the 5.7-ounce clear plastic containers of the mix with a UPC of 41415088586 sold from Publix stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and North Carolina are being recalled.

Pubix received notification of the potential contamination from the store’s supplier of dried apricot, according to the release.

There have been no reported cases of illness to date, according to the release. Consumption of products containing Listeria monocytogenes can lead to serious — and sometimes fatal — infection in those with weakened immune systems such as elderly people and young children. Infections can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. Healthy individuals may suffer short-term symptoms of high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, according to the release.

Consumers who have purchased the product in question may return the product to their local store for a full refund.
