Man hospitalized after Siesta Key crash

A 34-year-old Lakewood Ranch man was hospitalized after a single-car crash on Siesta Key early Thursday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Gregory Kerrel Gibson was driving a 2016 Volkswagon Passat northbound on Ocean Boulevard around 2:53 a.m. when he missed the curve approaching Ocean Place. He swerved to the right, but his car struck a tree, then a landscaping wall, then a second tree, according to FHP.

Gibson was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

While the crash was not alcohol-related, Gibson was not wearing his seat belt. He was cited for that as well as careless driving, according to FHP.
