Mailman helps delivers victim to safety from burning Tampa home
A Tampa mailman became a first responder Friday afternoon when a home he was delivering mail to in the city’s Riverhills neighborhood caught fire.
Jason Moss said he smelled smoke and saw a homeowner struggling to get his elderly disabled father from inside of the home.
Moss said he attempted to go in but the smoke was too thick.
“The first thing I did was went over … adrenaline comes over you, and you’re done,” Moss said.
When officers arrived, a sergeant put on a gas mask and went inside the home and carried the victim to the window where another officer and Moss were waiting to pull him out.
“We all reached in, the postman was here, too. We all grabbed him and carried him over,” Officer Peter Sierra said.
The sergeant and the elderly victim were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Two dogs were also rescued from the fire.
Officials said the fire was caused by an electrical issue in an air conditioner.
