Here comes the rain again
No, your weather app isn’t broken - it is supposed to keep raining over the next week, according to forecasts.
Scattered showers and storms are expected to continue through Tuesday as well, with at least a 30 percent chance of rain every day. Highs will likely remain in the 80s through Tuesday, with lows dipping into the mid-70s, according to the National Weather Service.
New rainfall for Thursday is estimated between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, according to the National Weather Service.
Bay News 9 reports there was 2.22 inches of rainfall in Bradenton in the prior 24 hours, as of 2:11 p.m. Wednesday, and more than 3 inches in Sarasota. Before that, more than an inch of rain fell in Bradenton on Tuesday.
As more rain is expected to fall, Bay News 9 meteorologists say there is a possibility for some minor flooding in a few areas, especially those that have seen heavy rains over the last few days.
Rainfall this month for Manatee County, as of Tuesday, was 3.76 inches, just over 12 inches this year. That’s more than two inches more than normal for the month - but Manatee County is still more than two inches behind normal rainfall for the year, according to Bay News 9.
Manatee County has seen an average of just under three inches of rainfall so far in June, according to the Florida Forest Service.
Wednesday morning’s heavy storms caused the West Manatee Fire Rescue station and the historic Harrington House Beachfront Bed and Breakfast at Holmes Beach to be struck by lightning. No serious damage or injuries were reported.
Flight status information from Tampa International Airport showed more than 90 flights delayed, and one canceled, as of 2:40 p.m. Wednesday. Eight flights displayed as delayed at Bradenton-Sarasota International Airport and just one flight showed a delayed arrival at St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport.
But it’s not all doom and gloom. Thanks to the rain the area’s seen over the last few days, the county’s burn ban has been lifted and as of Tuesday, there were only two open wildfires in the Myakka River District, officials said.
