Officials hope to spark a new tradition with a fireworks display at Nathan Benderson Park.

Fireworks to celebrate the upcoming holiday are planned for July 1 over Regatta Island at Nathan Benderson Park, according to Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center Associates, Inc. (SANCA).

The gates open at 4:30 p.m. July 1, with music, games, family fun and fireworks planned, according to SANCA. Equipment rentals like kayaks and paddle boards will be available from 5 to 7 p.m. The event will continue until 9:30 p.m.

Those in attendance are able to bring their own chairs, blankets, food and drink, but glass containers are not permitted.

Admission to the event is free, however parking on Regatta Island will cost $5.

Dogs will not be allowed on Regatta Island for safety reasons, according to SANCA, though Nathan Benderson Park is dog-friendly.
