6-month-old child found dead in St. Petersburg home
Pinellas County sheriff’s detectives are investigating the death of a 6-month-old boy that occurred Monday afternoon in unincorporated St. Petersburg.
According to detectives, 6-month-old Anthony Ford was found unresponsive by one of his siblings who was sent to check on him at around 12:20 p.m., when he was found on the side of the bed with his head stuck in the opening between the mattress and headboard.
Detectives say 33-year-old Antonio Ford placed his son on his bed, which was located in a back bedroom, to take a nap sometime after 10:45 a.m. He performed CPR on the child until paramedics arrived and took him to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, where the infant was later pronounced deceased.
Detectives say the infant had a crib at the residence but was often allowed to sleep in his parent’s bed. According to a release by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Antonio Ford was home alone at the time with five other children while Anthony’s mother, 29-year-old Nina Yates, was away from home.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine cause and manner of death, deputies said.
