A former Manatee School for the Arts student is seeing his name in lights — well, sort of.

Reggie Williams Jr., also known as R.LUM.R (pronounced Ar-Lamar) was named to Rolling Stone’s 10 New Artists You Need to Know Now.

Rolling Stone writes that his sound is like “a singer/songwriter armored to compete in a world dominated by trap and EDM.”

According to Rolling Stone, Williams trained as a classical guitarist for years before diving into his new sound.

Though he started putting together early recordings in Florida, Williams’ style changed to include electronics and with that, he became the R.LUM.R. known today.

His songs appear on Spotify play lists and “Frustrated,” which he released in 2016, has been streamed more than 15 million times on the site, according to Rolling Stone.

Williams, who is from Bradenton, was also spotlighted by NPR as “an artist to watch at SXSW.” He is now based out of Nashville.
