A farm truck collided with, killed woman in Manatee County tomato field

Officials say a woman died after a farm truck that was backing up in a tomato field near Myakka City collided with her.

Angelia Mateo, 62, of Immokalee, died after the collision on private property in the 40000 block of Ballard Road Thursday afternoon, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The farm truck, used only on private property, was backing down an aisle in a tomato field when the incident occurred around 3:25 p.m. Mateo was walking behind the truck when she was struck, according to FHP.

The truck’s 62-year-old driver failed to see Mateo behind him, according to FHP.
