Where to get a COVID test in Manatee County as omicron and testing demand surges

An all-too familiar scene is unfolding across Florida and the U.S. as the omicron variant of the coronavirus rapidly spreads causing a spike of infections — people are rushing to get tested.

With infection rates rising, many people are also looking to get tested before gathering to ring in the new year.

The Florida Department of Health is currently offering free COVID-19 tested at the Bradenton Area Convention Center, One Haben Blvd., Palmetto, daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Testing remains free, but a government issued photo is required. Both a rapid and PCR tests will still be offered. Appointments are not required and it is a walk-up testing site.

Rapid COVID-19 testing is also provided at all MCR Health locations, but appointments are required. For locations in Manatee County or more information, visit mcr.health.

At the East Manatee Healthcare Center, MCR Health does provide PCR testing is also available and accept walk-ins.

  • Ellenton Urgent Care, 4015 U.S. Highway 301 N., Ellenton

Doctors’ offices and the Florida Department of Health Manatee County can also provide testing.

At-home tests are sold in pharmacies but are in short supply across the country.

Update 1/4/22: Manatee school district is opening a new test site for students, teachers and government workers at John H. Marble Park, 3675 53rd Ave. E. in Bradenton. Open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Read more here.
