40 new coronavirus infections in Manatee. Statewide, more than 2,600 new cases reported
Forty new coronavirus infections in Manatee County were confirmed by the Florida Department of Health on Thursday. Statewide, there were 2,628 new cases and 129 new deaths from COVID-19.
In total, there have been 11,619 people infected in Manatee County by the coronavirus since the pandemic hit. Statewide, infections now total 709,144.
The respiratory virus has killed 14,444 residents and 171 non-residents in Florida since March.
No new deaths were confirmed in Manatee County, where the official death toll remained at 291.
The latest local cases were among the results for 681 tests administered locally, with a positivity rate of 10.3%.
Manatee County’s three general hospitals, Manatee Memorial Hospital, Blake Medical Center and Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, had 26 patients on Thursday who were positive for the coronavirus, according to data reported by the hospitals to county public safety officials.
According to the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration, the 26 patients were admitted with COVID-19 being a primary diagnosis and reason for their admission. Across the state, AHCA reported 2,080 people hospitalized because of COVID-19.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 822 people hospitalized with the coronavirus in Manatee County. The state has seen a total of 44,320 hospitalizations during that time, according to health department..
All three hospitals also remain near capacity, with 15 available and staffed beds available, including five ICU beds. Hospital censuses are typically lower during this time of year compared to during winter months.

- Sarasota County: Cases increased from 8,189 to 8,233. The official death toll rose from 258 to 261.
- DeSoto County: Cases increased from 1,571 to 1,573. The official death toll remained at 25.
- Hardee County: Cases increased from 1,366 to 1,375. The official death toll remained at 11.
- Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 42,248 to 42,380. The official death toll rose from 646 to 654.
- Pinellas County: Cases increased from 22,181 to 22,266. The official death toll rose from 753 to 755.
