Manatee County resident among latest 174 COVID-19 deaths confirmed in Florida

Another Manatee County resident is confirmed dead from COVID-19. It was one of the 174 new deaths confirmed Wednesday by the Florida Department of Health.

In Manatee County, there have been 291 residents who have been killed by the respiratory disease. Across the state, there have been 14,317 residents and 171 non-residents who have died.

The latest victim was a 92-year-old woman connected to a local long-term care facility.

Manatee County also had 33 new coronavirus infections. reported. Since the pandemic hit, there have been 11,579 people in Manatee County who have tested positive.

Statewide, 1,948 new infections were reported, making 706,516 people who have now tested positive.

Manatee County’s three general hospitals, Manatee Memorial Hospital, Blake Medical Center and Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, were almost at capacity on Wednesday with 18 available and staffed beds, including one ICU bed, according to data provided from the hospitals to county public safety officials.

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 have also continued to tick upward in the past week. On Wednesday, the three general hospitals had 28 patients hospitalized who were positive for the coronavirus, according to county’s data. The Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration reported that 24 patients were admitted with COVID-19 as a primary reason for admission.

Wednesday’s latest new infections were among 681 new test results released with a 4.8% positivity rate.

Surrounding counties:

  • Sarasota County: Cases increased from 8,177 to 8,189. The official death toll increased from 256 to 258.
  • DeSoto County: Cases increased from 1,566 to 1,571. The official death toll remained at 25.
  • Hardee County: Cases increased from 13,364 to 1,366. The official death toll remained at 11.
  • Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 42,118 to 42,248. The official death toll increased from 636 to 646.
  • Pinellas County: Cases increased from 22,129 to 22,181. The official death toll increased from 752 to 753.
