Manatee County adds 22 more COVID-19 cases as Florida tops 700,000 confirmed cases
Another 22 Manatee County residents have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the latest data from the Florida Department of Health. They were among 1,882 new cases confirmed statewide on Sunday.
The number of known cases of COVID-19 in Florida since the pandemic began reached 700,564 on Sunday. That number includes 8,330 non-residents. Florida has the third-highest number of reported cases nationwide, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the fifth-highest number of deaths.
On Sunday, the state health department confirmed the deaths of 10 more Florida residents and two more non-residents who had the coronavirus. The statewide death toll from COVID-19 now stands at 14,032 Florida residents and 170 non-residents.
No new deaths were reported for Manatee County on Sunday, where the death toll remained at 291 residents.
The cumulative case count of COVID-19 in Manatee County is now at 11,458.
Manatee County residents have continued to test positive for COVID-19 at lower levels over the last month. Positivity rates for new cases were below 4% every week in September.
The county’s overall positivity rate, a measure of all cases since testing began, has been on a slight decreasing trend over the past month. On Sunday, it dropped to 10.76%. That compares to 10.9% near the beginning of the month.
Manatee County from Saturday to Sunday:
- Cases increased from 11,436 to 11,458. (248 new cases were reported over the past week.)
- The death toll remained at 291. (14 new deaths were reported over the last week.)
- Hospitalizations since the outbreak increased from 801 to 802 residents.
- The number of males infected is 5,280 compared to 5,940 females and 120 unidentified.
The total number of tests administered is 106,466. (2,511 tests were recorded over the last week.)
- The county’s positivity rate decreased slightly from 10.79% to 10.76%. That compares to 10.78% last week, 10.8% two weeks ago, 10.83% three weeks ago and 10.9% a month ago.
- 843 cases (7% of all cases) and 129 deaths were among residents and staff of long-term care facilities in Manatee.
33 cases have been reported at Manatee County correctional facilities.
1,358 children have tested positive for COVID-19 in Manatee.
Florida from Saturday to Sunday:
- Cases increased from 698,682 to 700,564, including 8,330 non-residents.
- The death toll increased from 14,022 to 14,032 residents. Non-resident deaths increased from 168 to 170.
- Florida’s overall positivity rate decreased from 13.33% to 13.32%.
Surrounding counties:
- Sarasota County: Cases increased from 8,107 to 8,142. The official death toll remained at 254.
- DeSoto County: Cases increased from 1,561 to 1,563. The official death toll remained at 25.
- Hardee County: Cases increased from 1,354 to 1,358. The official death toll remained at 11.
- Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 41,722 to 41,826. The official death toll remained at 628.
- Pinellas County: Cases increased from 21,964 to 22,004. The official death toll remained at 744.
