43 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Manatee County as Florida death toll tops 14,000
Florida health officials on Saturday reported 43 new cases of COVID-19 in Manatee County bringing the total number of cases since the outbreak to 11,436.
There were no new deaths reported locally, leaving the official death toll at 291, however, there were 107 new deaths reported in Florida bringing the statewide death toll to 14,022. The state reported 2,795 new cases in Florida bringing the total number of cases to 698,682.
The number of test results counted from Friday to Saturday in Manatee County was 1,537. The daily positivity rate is 2.73% while the county’s overall posiviity rate dropped slightly to 10.77%.
The elderly in Manatee County have been the most vulnerable to COVID-19 despite representing the least amount of cases at 15%, but have suffered 77% of the fatalities.
Those under the age of 55 represent the most cases with 72%, but 7% of the deaths with only one death reported under the age of 24, which was a 17-year-old male who died in July.
Long-term care facilities represent 7% of the overall cases, but according to state health officials, 123 of the total number of deaths have been linked back to those facilities.
Of the 43 new cases in Manatee County, health officials reported seven of them were pediatric cases bringing the total number of cases to 1,357. Six of those cases were under the age of 15. Those under the age of 18 are testing higher than the county average at 12.2% compared to the overall average of 10.77%, according to the health department.
Thus far, pediatric tests administered climbed to 11,129 with 9,772 testing negative.
Manatee County cases and deaths by age group:
- 0-4: Cases increased from 262 to 263 with no deaths.
- 5-14: Cases increased from 749 to 754 with no deaths.
- 15-24: Cases increased from 1,841 to 1,845 with one death.
- 25-34: Cases increased from 1,931 to 1,936 with four deaths.
- 35-44: Cases increased from 1,795 to 1,800 with six deaths.
- 45-54: Cases increased from 1,635 to 1,642 with 13 deaths.
- 55-64: Cases increased from 1,374 to 1,384 with 44 deaths.
- 65-74: Cases increased from 871 to 875 with 54 deaths.
- 75-84: Cases increased from 524 to 526 with 91 deaths.
- 85 plus: Cases remained at 281 with 78 deaths.
The state lists 12 cases that are unidentified with no deaths. Non resident cases are not included in these numbers.
Manatee County from Friday to Saturday:
- Cases increased from 11,393 to 11,436.
- The death toll remained at 291.
- The number of hospitalizations since the outbreak increased from 800 to 801.
- The number of men infected is 5,268 compared to 5,926 females.
- The number of tests administered since the outbreak increased from 105,715 to 106,204.
- The overall positivity rate dropped slightly from 10.78% to 10.77%
Florida from Friday to Saturday:
- Cases increased from 695,887 to 698,682.
- The death toll increased from 13,915 to 14,022.
- Florida’s overall positivity rate dropped slightly from 13.35% to 13.33%.
Surrounding counties:
- Sarasota County: Cases increased from 8,065 to 8,107. The official death toll remained at 254.
- DeSoto County: Cases increased from 1,556 to 1,561. The official death toll remained at 25.
- Hardee County: Cases increased from 1,331 to 1,354. The official death toll remained at 11.
- Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 41,506 to 41,722. The official death toll rose from 625 to 628.
- Pinellas County: Cases increased from 21,845 to 21,964. The official death toll rose from 742 to 744.
