Five more Manatee County residents confirmed dead from COVID-19, health department says
Five Manatee County residents are among the 120 latest COVID-19 deaths confirmed by the Florida Department of Health.
The official COVID-19 death toll in Manatee County now stands at 291, as of Friday. Statewide, there were 120 newly confirmed deaths, bringing the total to 13,915 Florida residents.
The latest local victims were a 66-year-old man, a 63-year-old man, a 78-year-old man, a 75-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman — none of whom lived or worked at a local long-term care facility, according to the health department.
There were also 41 new infections of the coronavirus in Manatee County on Friday. Since the pandemic hit, there have been 11,915 people to test positive locally.
Across the state, there were 2,847 new cases on Friday, making a total of 695,887 people who have tested positive.
Manatee County’s three general hospitals, Manatee Memorial Hospital, Blake Medical Center and Lakewood Ranch Center, together had a total of 18 patients admitted who were positive for the coronavirus, according to data reported by the hospitals to county public safety officials. Three of those patients were being treated in an ICU.
According to the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration, 15 patients at those hospitals were admitted with COVID-19 as a primary reason for admission.
The Emergency Communications Center took 22 COVID-19 related 911 calls during the past week while 311 took 11 COVID-related calls.
Surrounding counties:
- Sarasota County: Cases increased from 8,009 to 8,065. The official death toll rose from 253 to 254.
- DeSoto County: Cases increased from 1,555 to 1,556. The official death toll increased from 25 to 26.
- Hardee County: Cases increased from 1,322 to 1,331. The official death toll remained at 11.
- Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 41,351 to 41,506. The official death toll rose from 620 to 625.
- Pinellas County: Cases increased from 21,765 to 21,845. The official death toll rose from 739 to 742.
