Four more Manatee County residents confirmed dead from COVID-19, health department says

Four more Manatee County residents have been confirmed to have died from COVID-19, the Florida Department of Health said Thursday.

The health department also reported 25 new coronavirus infections in the county.

The official death toll in Manatee County now stands at 286 dead since the start of the pandemic in March.

A total of 11,352 people in Manatee County have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, which causes the COVID-19 respiratory disease.

The four people whose deaths were reported Thursday were 75 or older, according to health officials.

Five of the new cases in Manatee County were children under the age of 14, bringing the total number of pediatric cases to 1,349.

Statewide, Florida recorded another 2,541 cases and 177 fatalities. As of Thursday’s update, 693,040 Floridians have contracted COVID-19 since the outbreak and 13,795 have died.

Manatee County cases and deaths by age group:

  • 0-4: Cases remained at 262 with no deaths.
  • 5-14: Cases increased from 743 to 748 with no deaths.
  • 15-24: Cases increased from 1,831 to 1,835 with one death.
  • 25-34: Cases increased from 1,923 to 1,925 with four deaths.
  • 35-44: Cases increased from 1,781 to 1,785 with six deaths.
  • 45-54: Cases increased from 1,626 to 1,629 with 12 deaths.
  • 55-64: Cases increased from 1,366 to 1,368 with 43 deaths.
  • 65-74: Cases increased from 863 to 866 with 53 deaths.
  • 75-84: Cases increased from 520 to 522 with 89 deaths.
  • 85 plus: Cases remained at 282 with 78 deaths.

Manatee County from Wednesday to Thursday:

  • Cases increased from 11,327 to 11,352.
  • The death toll rose from 282 to 286.
  • Resident hospitalizations since the outbreak increased from 793 to 795.
  • Manatee County’s overall positivity rate decreased slightly from 10.79% to 10.78%.

Florida from Wednesday to Thursday:

  • Cases increased from 690,499 to 693,040.
  • The death toll rose from 13,618 to 13,795
  • Florida’s overall positivity rate is 13.36%

Surrounding counties:

  • Sarasota County: Cases increased from 7,948 to 8,009. The official death toll rose from 251 to 253.
  • DeSoto County: Cases increased from 1,551 to 1,555. The official death toll increased from 24 to 25.
  • Hardee County: Cases increased from 1,313 to 1,322. The official death toll remained at 11.
  • Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 41,178 to 41,351. The official death toll rose from 614 to 620.
  • Pinellas County: Cases increased from 21,701 to 21,765. The official death toll rose from 736 to 739.
