Another COVID-19 death reported in Manatee County. He was a 41-year-old man

A 41-year-old man is the latest Manatee County resident to die from COVID-19, the Florida Department of Health said Tuesday.

The official death toll in Manatee County now stands at 278.

Across the state, the deaths of 99 Florida residents from COVID-19 were confirmed. Since March, there have been 13,416 residents and 163 non-residents to die from COVID-19 in Florida.

The U.S. death toll from COVID-19 surpassed 200,000 on Tuesday.

Manatee County had 38 new coronavirus infections reported by the health department on Tuesday. At least 11,279 people have been infected by the coronavirus locally since the start of the pandemic.

Those new cases were among 253 test results released Tuesday, with a positivity rate of 15%.

Statewide, there were 2,470 new cases reported, raising the total to 687,909.

In Manatee County’s three general hospitals, Manatee Memorial Hospital, Blake Medical Center and Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, there were 20 patients hospitalized on Tuesday who were positive for the coronavirus, according to data self-reported to county public safety officials. According to the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration, there were 15 patients admitted for whom COVID-19 was a primary reason for admission.

The three hospitals had 28 available and staffed beds on Tuesday, including eight ICU beds.

Since the onset of the pandemic, there have been 800 people total hospitalized in Manatee County because of COVID-19, according to health department.

SURROUNDING COUNTIES

  • Sarasota County: Cases increased from 7,903 to 7,912. The official death toll rose from 247 to 248.

  • DeSoto County: Cases remained at 1,549 to 1,550. The official death toll remained 23.

  • Hardee County: Cases increased from 1,299 to 1,306. The official death toll remained at 10.

  • Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 40,898 to 41,016. The official death toll rose from 604 to 605.

  • Pinellas County: Cases increased from 21,561 to 21,620. The official death toll rose from 728 to 729.
