71 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Manatee County, says Florida health department

Florida health officials reported on Saturday that 71 Manatee County residents are among the state’s 3,573 new cases of COVID-19.

Another 62 Floridians have lost their lives to the disease caused by the coronavirus, bringing the state’s overall death toll to 13,287.

There were no new deaths reported in Manatee County, leaving the official death count at 277.

Among the 277 deaths, 126 have been linked back to local long-term care facilities, according to the state’s weekly update, while representing just 8% of the overall number of cases.

Those over the age of 64 represent 15% of the cases, but 77% of the fatalities. The next age group hardest hit with fatalities is between 55 and 64, which represents 12% of the cases and 15% of the deaths.

Age groups under the age of 45 represent 67% of the total cases and but 18% of the deaths, with only one death reported under the age of 24, which was a 17-year-old who died in July.

Six of the new cases on Saturday were children under the age of 18 bringing the total number of pediatric cases in Manatee County to 1,329.

Manatee County cases and total deaths by age groups:

  • 0-4: Cases remained at 259 with no deaths.
  • 5-14: Cases increased from 729 to 732 with no deaths.
  • 15-24: Cases increased from 1,784 to 1,802 with one death.
  • 25-34: Cases increased from 1,881 to 1,892 with four deaths.
  • 35-44: Cases increased from 1,748 to 1,756 with five deaths.
  • 45-54: Cases increased from 1,594 to 1,603 with 12 deaths.
  • 55-64: Cases increased from 1,337 to 1,348 with 41 deaths.
  • 65-74: Cases increased from 846 to 854 with 53 deaths.
  • 75-84: Cases increased from 504 to 505 with 84 deaths.
  • 85 plus: Cases increased from 275 to 277 with 77 deaths.
  • 12 cases have not been identified by age.

Manatee County from Friday to Saturday:

  • Cases increased from 11,087 to 11,158.
  • The death toll remained at 277.
  • The number of males infected is 5,141 compared to 5,772 females with 127 unreported.
  • Hospitalizations since the outbreak increased from 783 to 784
  • The number of tests administered since the outbreak increased from 102,847 to 103,411.
  • Manatee County’s overall positivity rate is 10.79%.

Florida from Friday to Saturday:

  • Cases increased from 677,660 to 681,233.
  • The death toll rose from 13,225 to 13,287
  • Florida’s positivity rate dropped slightly from 13.43% to 13.42%.

Surrounding counties:

  • Sarasota County: Cases increased from 7,795 to 7,848. The official death toll remained at 246.
  • DeSoto County: Cases increased from 1,543 to 1,545. The official death toll remained at 23.
  • Hardee County: Cases increased from 1,268 to 1,274. The official death toll remained at 10.
  • Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 40,349 to 40,587. The official death toll remained at 604.
  • Pinellas County: Cases increased from 21,359 to 21,440. The official death toll rose from 720 to 721.
