Manatee County has 46 new coronavirus infections, health department says

Manatee County has 46 new coronavirus infections, according to the Florida Department of Health.

In all, the health department said there were 3,204 infections reported on Florida.

Infections now total 11,087 in Manatee County since the pandemic got underway. Statewide, the total is 677,660.

The deaths of 139 Florida residents from COVID-19 were also reported Friday. A total of 13,225 residents have died across the state from COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus.

No new local deaths were confirmed in Manatee County on Friday. The official local death toll stands at 277.

The latest new local cases were among the 421 test results released, with a 10.9% positivity rate.

There were 17 patients hospitalized at one of the county’s three general hospitals who were positive for the coronavirus, according to data provided by the hospital to county public safety officials. Five of those patients are being treated in an ICU.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 783 people, about 7% of all cases, hospitalized locally because of COVID-19, according to FDOH.

Capacity at the county’s hospitals improved on Friday people compared to the previous two days. Twenty-nine staffed beds were available, including five ICU beds.

Meanwhile, paramedics have been responding to about five calls a day where the patient is suspected to have the coronavirus, according to an internal county report. There were 18 COVID-19 related 911 calls in the past week, while 311 took 23 such calls, mostly dealing with testing.

Surrounding counties:

  • Sarasota County: Cases increased from 7,752 to 7,795. The official death toll rose from 245 to 246.
  • DeSoto County: Cases increased from 1,540 to 1,543. The official death toll remained at 23.
  • Hardee County: Cases increased from 1,259 to 1,268. The official death toll remained at 10.
  • Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 40,126 to 40,349. The official death toll rose from 601 to 604.
  • Pinellas County: Cases increased from 21,254 to 21,359. The official death toll rose from 715 to 720.
