Manatee County tops 11,000 coronavirus infections since start of pandemic
Fifty-six of the state’s newest 3,255 coronavirus infections confirmed in Florida on Thursday were in Manatee County, according to the Florida Department of Health.
With the latest cases, Manatee County has now had at least 11,041 coronavirus infections since the onset of the pandemic.
Across Florida, there were 3,255 new infections reported on Thursday. Cases now total 674,456 in the state.
The deaths of 147 Florida residents caused by COVID-19 were also confirmed on Thursday, according to the health department. A total of 13,086 residents have died from COVID-19.
No new deaths were reported in Manatee County on Thursday. The county’s official death toll is 277.
The latest cases locally were among 507 test results released Thursday with a 11% positivity rate.
Hospitals were even closer to capacity on Thursday than they were the previous day with only nine available staffed beds, including two ICU beds, at one of the county’s three general hospitals, according to data provided by the hospitals. There were 20 positive patients among the three hospitals, according to that same data.
Surrounding counties:
- Sarasota County: Cases increased from 7,709 to 7,752. The official death toll rose from 241 to 245.
- DeSoto County: Cases remained at 1,540. The official death toll remained at 23.
- Hardee County: Cases increased from 1,252. to 1,259. The official death toll remained at 10.
- Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 39,888 to 40,126. The official death toll rose from 596 to 601.
- Pinellas County: Cases increased from 21,152 to 21,254. The official death toll rose from 714 to 715.
