Three more Manatee County residents die from COVID-19, Florida health officials say

Three Manatee County residents are among the 152 residents across Florida newly confirmed on Wednesday to have died from COVID-19, according to Florida Department of Health.

The official death toll in Manatee County now stands at 277.

The latest deaths reported were that of a 89-year-old man, a 59-year-old woman and a 73-year-old man. One of three victims lived or worked at a local long-term care facility.

Statewide, there have been 12,939 Florida residents who have died from COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus.

Manatee County had 13 new infections confirmed on Wednesday. There have been 10,985 cases since the onset of the pandemic.

Across the state, there were 2,355 new infections across the state, according to the health department. In total, 671,201 people in Florida have tested positive for the coronavirus.

The latest local cases were among 281 test results released by FDOH with a 4.6% positivity rate.

As of Wednesday, there were 22 patients admitted to one of the county’s three general medicine hospitals who are positive for the coronavirus, according to data collected by the county’s Department of Public Safety. The hospitals were again near capacity with only 22 staffed beds available, including six ICU beds.

Surrounding counties:

  • Sarasota County: Cases increased from 7,671 to 7,709. The official death toll rose from 239 to 241.
  • DeSoto County: Cases increased from 1,539 to 1,540. The official death toll remained 23.
  • Hardee County: Cases increased from 1,242 to 1,252. The official death toll rose from nine to 10.
  • Hillsborough County: Cases increased from 39,751 to 39,888. The official death toll rose from 591 to 596.
  • Pinellas County: Cases increased from 21,081 to 21,152. The official death toll rose from 710 to 714.
